Color exploration

Like every designer out there, I’ve got my little bag of tricks that I use to help me do my job. Every now and then, I’ll share one or two of these tricks in the hopes that someone might read it and find it useful.

Today’s tip is one of the ways I explore color and images to create a color palette or scheme.

There are dozens of web applications that allow you to construct color schemes based on color theory and the ubiquitous color wheel, but my favorite way to develop a color palette is to use web apps that allow you to upload an image and select from sampled areas in the image. Often, you get unexpected results which are actually quite beautiful and useful.
