LIVEwall Introduction + Dreamscape

LIVEwall – observations from the periphery

A while back we kicked off LIVEtwall in the studio to identify forces that are shaping today’s visual cultures and built environments as well as social movements that could influence what we design. The idea was pretty simple, yet at the same time pretty complex: to submerge ourselves in the quickly evolving and often chaotic world and emerge with synthesized insights to fuel the design process.

Trend #1: Dreamscape
A recent insight that might interest you, Dreamscape; this trend grabs us because of the opportunities it presents in the airplane environment. The idea of flying is pretty dreamy; the experience unfortunately, is anything but. Luckily for us, where there’s limited space, there’s unlimited opportunity. Making space feel expansive when it’s actually super limited, and creating a dream-like atmosphere that fulfills passengers’ desire to escape is something we imagine daily.

Here are a few attributes of the Dreamscape trend:

- Surreal
- Dreamy
- Disappearing
- Revealing
- Gradient
- Theatrical
- Transparent/Translucent

Environmental factors (lights, reflection, shadow, background/foreground) can manipulate objects and spaces to re-orient viewers away from expected everyday perspectives. The experience awakens the senses, heightening awareness of the world we live in. I don’t know about you, but sounds pretty good to me!

Intelligent insights abound, stay tuned!”
