Chili chili bang bang
Another Teague first for the history books! Today we hosted our second first annual chili cook-off! Rumor has it the first took place the summer of 1988. There are very few of us here that can remember that special day… Lake Sammamish, clear blue sky, an egg toss, a water balloon fight, tug-of-war and lots of chili! But, was it an official cook-off, or merely a potluck? If I remember correctly, Mr. Mark Eakins won that year with Peter Manno taking a strong second place with a very memorable tequila chocolate chili…Mark this is your chance to set the record straight, here and now, let the truth be known.
The 2009 event brought 13 pots of the mouth-watering spicy stew with all kinds of condiments to compliment the dishes. After sampling a taste from every pot my tongue was numb, sinuses clear, and my head on fire–in a word, delicious. To properly document the winners of today’s event: Ken Brethauer’s ‘Chili of Dreams’ won best flavor with a mean smokey barbequed chili and Ken Dowd’s ‘Soup of the Devil’ won spiciest with his tasty rib stew concoction (not a surprise for those of us who annually partake of his posole).
Stayed tuned for the third annual chili cook-off report, in 2029 ha!
